The Kind Worth Killing is a mystery novel written by Peter Swanson. Lily is telling a story from her childhood. Her mother had a man living in an apartment above her studio. She said he was an artist and she was giving him a rent-free place to pursue his paintings undistracted by worldly needs.
Lily remembered her father calling him "the homeless degenerate ou mother has housed for the summer."
Not much else I can say about the novel; it did not grab my interest, so barely read it.
