Cleaning up e-mail opened document of book quotes. I am confused. The following quote is probably from Kareem by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with Mignon McCarthy, or from Giant Steps: The Autobiography of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar by himself and Peter Knobler. I have it listed as from Giant Steps, with the title listed by both authors (McCarthy and Knobler) so it was likely one of my own copying errors.
When I got a computer, I started typing up many pages of handwritten notes I made while reading books.
"The homeless are living in Penn Station now, and in Grand Central, New York's Calcutta's."
That reminded me of a homeless woman sitting on the ground outside of Grand Central Station. I did not record the memory. Did she squat? Or simply sit there with urine running down the sidewalk around her? There were police officers nearby and a load of people, yet it seemed every one simply went about their business ignoring her. I do not remember if she seemed embarrassed or simply resigned to her plight.
I do know that a good gift to homeless would be adult diapers.
