Technology
First time I can recall waiting until the day they were due to return library books. I usually read books as soon as I get them and return them a day of two later. It is such a short walk to the library and I become distressed. I did not want to take a number and wait for a computer, so used a 15 minute stand up to use one to access the internet. I had some things to print out. I was wishing they put high stools there, my foot was numb and leg hurting. I want to cry.
I might have printed out more and used the full 15 minutes if I could have sat down, but could not so logged off quickly. Walk around the corner to the computer where you pick out your job number to highlight, click print and insert money in the machine. Two guys at the photocopy/printer I again had to sit down. If one is making a photo copy and some one hits print the machine will not make the photo copy. One man's stuff was being printed which confused the other completely. I sat because I could not stand and wanted to wait for the guy to make his photocopy before I put in my order to the machine.
Even when the copier became available the guy was not getting his copy and the first man tried to explain again, slowly this time, but finally left. I walked to the back of the narrow passageway to help him. The copier said: original on glass. There was no original on glass but the man thought that was why his copy would not be made. Think he may have been Chinese. He put it in that top feeder which should have worked. Not understanding me he put his paper on the glass and got his photocopy thanking me for my help.
After getting my printouts I decided to just put what I needed on the glass, rather than using top feeder which usually works. Leg/foot hurts so bad...
...so I see this homeless guy and ask if I can take his picture. Of course I knew my friend would say okay. Disappointed in the photo. Tried to enlarge it and it got all blurry around the edges. I have to learn how to zoom in or zoom out with the camera phone. I told him I would be able to email it to myself and print out a copy for him at the library. He is in somewhat worse shape than he was in 2004/2005 in some ways. Sad that he got cleaned up and had no place to go, so returned from LA. It did not take long living on the streets to start drinking again.
He did have an intake at the Village but his mind is such that he needs the Village to take care of him, rather than expecting him to take the initiative to go to them. Perhaps what I mean is an assisted living care place. Some one to dole out his prescriptions for him, do his paperwork, pick him up to take him to the doctors~that kind of stuff. When he first showed back up on the streets in Long Beach he was so proud of his "graduation" paper from the structured program he had been with in LA. He probably no longer has the papers.
He is staying at the Winter Shelter at the church and kept telling me "If you can't find me here I will be at the brick building". He could not quite understand that I could not tell him when I would be at the library again to get him a copy of his picture~"if you do not find me later, I will be here in the morning and blah, blah, blah". I hope the second photo is better than this one. Technology is awesome though. Took a lot of photos after leaving my friend and walking to the store to get groceries.
