everyone in this room will someday be dead is a novel by Emily Austin. I do not know what category this book belongs to ~ noir? Fictionalized memoir? If there is such a category.
The story is told by Gilda, which gives it the feel of a memoir. She is depressed; obsessed with death and dying. That might qualify it as a noir novel. Then again, it could qualify as humor. Despite the subject matter, Gilda can be quite funny as she tells the tales of her life.
The author mentions homeless people several times. Gilda feels sad thinking about homeless people out in the cold freezing or not having a drink of water. At one point she thinks:
"If I were to avoid buildings built for sad women, however, I would be homeless..."
I enjoyed reading "everyone in this room will someday be dead", because throughout my lifetime, I have pondered most ot the same things Gilda does. I am not sure the novel answers the question of existence and its meaningless, yet much brain food for thought in the pages. I have a clipping some where of a quote ~
"Who am I to ask who I am? Isn't it enough to Be?" internet credits the quote to Judie Robson.
