The 'frig started working on Sunday as mysteriously as it stopped. Ice block that was about 1/4 melted, refroze. Forgot to call manager on Monday about the key. Weather got nice and I did not leave apartment. The rain and warmth has started Morning Glory seeds growing like kudzu.
Yeah, I exaggerated the last. I harvested so many Morning Glory seeds this year, do not know what I will do with them all. My little patch of dirt has no space for them. Thus I started sprinkling them along the chain link fence. The gutter along sidewalk is not as filled with long-needle pine needles as it used to be. One, I cleared a lot of it; two, new owner of property next door had the beautiful tree cut down.
Yet the lower depths of the pine needle and dead leaves must have composted into enough dirt to sprout the seeds. My deciding to let nature take its course worked; green all along the sidewalk edge, and more seedlings growing in my patch than when I planted them. They are also sprouting in sidewalk cracks. Either seeds fell there of their own accord or I swept them into cracks (I swept away, then over, to ensure stray seeds would not land in cracks) or nature took its course, pods popping, seeds dropping, blown about a bit.
Never finished the harvesting, removing all the dead leaves and vines. Do not know if it is natural for the vines and leaves to die, or if the aphid's and inchworms were responsible for that. Did have a summer filled with purple, blue, pink and white glories, in spite of the pests. Had two blooms from old vines and may have a banner crop again soon.

Morning glories are annuals, who complete their life cycle in one year (though in warm places like Long Beach they may also live through the winter like perennials). So your vines losing leaves and such is normal; new ones will come up, especially since you are doing such a good job scattering the seeds.
