Homeless man, Joe, died after being hit by a car. He was an amputee (leg) and was hit while crossing a street in his wheel chair. The 64 year old driver took off, but was later found and charged with a hit and run accident.
I did not know Joe, although I often passed by the area where the Press-Telegram said he spent his days. From news reports, he reminded me of street friend, who went by the name, LT. Like LT, Joe was unoffical security guard of church where he was a member, patrolling parking lot at night.
The P-T had several articles about Joe and his dog, Lucky. Many people say Joe promised him the dog. Reporter, Greg Mellen, wrote about one of Joe's friends (Dan Lubiewski) who Mellon said is "the self-proclaimed Bird Man of Long Beach". Those were the exact words I used to describe Ralph who also called himself the Bird Man of Long Beach.
