On Broadway?
I lived on Broadway in Long Beach for 3 years. I walked or drove on Broadway countless times from 1994 through 2004 (more or less). I walked Broadway at least 365 times while street living. I say at least because I would walk from downtown and back again along Broadway; sometimes twice a day. When I spent time away from Long Beach, such as checking out jobs/housing in Phoenix, I obviously missed some days walking on Broadway.
I often walked on Broadway from McDonald's on 4th Street en route to the beach or visa versa. I walked from the beach area at Shoreline Drive/Alamitos/Ocean Blvd. to Two Umbrellas on Broadway, many times. Thus, even missing days walking on Broadway, I am sure I averaged 365 days that year.
Did not walk much at all Homeless 2006 ~ due to awful leg/foot problems.
Why am I telling you this? Having spent that many times, driving or walking (and skating) on Broadway, would think I could say I was walking on Broadway when I took this photo. When I spoke to social workers about my memory issues (possibly due to that misdiagnosed head injury, 1998), the poo-pah it as being normal. Whatever.
That white whatchamacallit, was not on this building back in 2005 when I slept on the porch in a corner. No longer recall the gentleman who slept there on a daily basis. There were other homeless who slept on either side of the building ~ same porch set-up to the left. What bothered me here was how some of those homeless used newspapers to help with the sidewalk chill ~ when they left in the morning they left a mess of papers.
I would gather them up to put in a nearby trash barrel. Also some of the men urinated on the sidewalk in the corner by the back wall. The building was vacant at the time, yet it is homeless doing stuff like that which causes the city and business owners to 'fence' off areas known as sleeping spots for street dwellers.
Until I walked past this building, I completely forgot about the 3 or 4 times I slept on the porch.
