The Promised World by Lisa Tucker does not have any homeless mentions. Part of a quote:
"...she wouldn't have said that anyway for fear of being hospitalized."
What the character would not share were suicidal thoughts. I overheard a man at the Village tell his case worker, "You are worse than a dope dealer, you are a hope dealer." The man was suicidal. Homelessness can cause a body to feel that all hope is gone causing thoughts of suicide. How can those having such thoughts be helped by workers and psych docs if they fear being sent to a psych unit for observation simply by expressing their feelings?
Dealing with or treating the depression caused by homelessness seems a better ideal.
