Have no idea who Debi Mazar is. The Google headline news took me to CNN page about Heroes contest. Perhaps Mazar is in the running to make the top 10 list this year. Mazar is motivated to help feed homeless due to a humble background growing up on Food Stamps.
Mazar is quoted as saying about the Midnight Mission in L.A.: "They're the oldest food bank in Los Angeles ... and I like to cook, I like to serve people. So we cooked up a bunch of food, and they let us use their truck, helped us serve it, and we raised a lot of money."
Cynical, I wonder, so. What(?) she went to MM once(?) and that makes her a hero?
Too bad my discs are not readable by the F-drive that copied my Homeless in Long Beach story to said discs. Could look up the names of ladies (mostly ladies) who cook and deliver meals to the homeless every Sunday (and Saturdays?) and have been doing so faithfully for years and years. To best of my knowledge "the Chicken lady" "Pat Cares" and others did not collect donations when feeding the homeless at Lincoln or 14th Street parks.
Where did they get the money to buy the food they cooked? From deep in their own pockets, I believe; or from donations at their churches. Where did they prepare these meals? At their own homes, I believe; or at a church kitchen, perhaps. They may get recognition locally now and then, but basically they are unsung heroines, except for homeless singing their praises.
Anyway The Midnight Mission website homepage is one big ad. I did not read the ads ~ raffle for a car and stuff like that. Nav bar links will help a reader find Services and other info about the mission.
