Did not expect to see the word "homeless" in "The Dark Side" by English writer Belinda Bauer, but did. Thinking of the reasons he did not like his superior officer (Marvel) Reynolds thought about when he : "....had held a nineteen-year-old homeless man for two days because he'd been near the scene of the crime and 'looked guilty'. "
The story is about a small town where every one knows everyone, thus a shock when an infirm elderly woman is murdered in her home. The "big city" investigators are called in and Marvel takes over the case, humiliating the sole local patrol officer. I figured out who the killer was early on in the story, but interesting just the same.
